the denim dress

Every now and again, I acquire a piece of clothing which quickly gets deemed 'my new favourite x', and with that comes the privilege of being saved only for the most special of occasions.

This denim dress is one of those items, after treating myself to it, I instantly fell in love with it.  However, I'm started to find flaws in this 'favourite' tag, thus being that actually by saving said item for said special occasion, means they spend more time showing off to the four walls of my wardrobe rather than being seen and (I'd like to think) admired by friends, family...and you know occasionally a passing stranger.
Dress - Oasis
Scarf - Primark
Boots - Zara

This dress for example, has been worn a grand total of 3 times, and I bought it back in June... now there's something not right there.

It's been worn on holiday (see here) very much an occasion I consider 'special', it's been worn to go wedding dress shopping, well of course one has to wear a pretty dress to find the most important dress of their life... and today.  Today, I have taken it to the supermarket, twice (a slight baking lack of preparation error), to my kitchen (to bake previously mentioned baking) and to the cinema...a dark room.

So, I'm officially making an effort to ensure that 'my new favourites' take pride of place not only in my wardrobe, but on the streets of Carlisle to be given the air time they deserve, so welcome Carlisle cinema-goers and supermarket shoppers to my new favourite denim dress.

pinterest picks

Having had intentions to start this new series of post so many times before, I finally decided to pull my finger out and make it happen.

My favourite 'Pins' of the week, for no real reason:
1. Perfect combination of denim, with just a flash of print.

2Chocolate and Yoghurt Zucchini Bread - sounds so wrong, but could be so right.

3. The cosiest corner.

4. Shades of lavender for beautiful bridesmaids.

If you want to follow me on Pinterest, then why not head on over...you can find me here.

autumn wishlist

I haven’t done a wishlist in soooooo long, but now that the weather has definitely taken a turn in the north, and it is beginning to feel decidedly Autumnal, I can’t help but lust after all the new season clothes that are hitting the shelves.

I’ve got to admit, I’ve always been a Winter girl at heart, I love fresh frozen mornings when the air is crisp and the sky is clear, being able to don a hat, scarf AND gloves makes this mornings all the more special. And that’s before I’ve even mentioned ankle boots and woollen coats. So I’m not ashamed to say, I’m happy to wave goodbye to Summer, for another 6 months I can seek comfort in my thick black tights rather than worrying about getting my pins out.

So to well and truly welcome the change in season’s, I’ve put together my top picks:
1. Missguided Rossie Tartan Blazer
2. Clarks Griffin Mabel
3. Oasis Drape Leather Jacket
4. River Island Grey Check Straight Trousers
5. ASOS Cashmere Crew Neck Jumper
6. Topshop Double Pocket Military Shirt

1. I’m pleased to see that tartan is sticking around, and this blazer, softened by the red check will definitely see me through the next couple of months, teamed with jeans and black ankle boots? I think I've found the perfect all-round outfit.

2. I've been umming and ahhing over Clarks Hamble Oaks in Stone for well over a year now, and still haven't been able to commit, and while deliberating over them yet again for what felt like the 257th time, I spotted these new suede brogues, and now I fear I'm facing another battle, do I or don't I?

3. I always think Oasis and Warehouse get it bang on at this time of year, they're always my first port of call when the weather starts looking a little bleaker, and I can tell we're in for a treat again this season. I'm in dire need of a new leather jacket, my current one has been literally worn to pieces and there's a rather nice gaping hole on the elbow. This oxblood beauty is just what I've been looking for, and I can already imagine welcoming it to my wardrobe with open arms and not given a second thought to my beloved black one which has been by my side and seen me through good times and bad.

4. Grey trousers aren't usually the type of item I'd willingly wear, think memories of ugly school uniforms and a bad pair I had for my first office job, but these, these are a different matter. Just look how pretty they are, and they'd certainly smarten up my usual day wear...the benefits of being able to wear jeans to work, means I only ever wear jeans to work!5. One word - cashmere. That is all.
6. Over the years, I’ve found myself drifting further and further away from Topshop's collections, dare I say it, maybe I’m getting too old? But changing my job, means I now walk past my local store on an almost daily basis, and I often find myself longing after items in their ever changing window displays. This shirt is no exception, having recently seen a blogger fave Llymlrs sporting it too, I think it’s a must have!

So what are you lusting after this season? And are you embracing this change in weather?

the £4 dress

Well I promised to be back, and here I am!  And if you're wondering where I've been (I'd like to hope you have) then you quite read my little update over here.

Admittedly, these photos are from several weeks ago (look at that weather!) but surely old photos are better than no photos, right?

I've got to admit, I was well and truly ready to embrace Autumn, my leather jacket is quickly becoming a regular part of my ensemble, I've dusted off my boots, and I was even eyeing up my tartan scarf last week.  Then I took a look at these photos and it makes me long for just a few more days of sunshine, technically it's still Summer for another 20 days isn't it? I've surely still got a few more beer garden afternoons ahead of me....

But anyway, let's talk about this dress, it truly was £4, I kid you not! And it wasn't even in the sale, now that is what I call a bargain...imagine if Primark do decide to reduce it? This little beauty I picked up for my holidays, and admittedly it was described as a 'beach' dress, and yes it is pretty thin material and a little more support around the boob area wouldn't go amiss, but at £4 can I really complain, I think not!

And just a quick little shout out to those purple sunnies, the boy and I have become somewhat obsessed with buying *ahem* Ray Ban's whilst we're on holiday, I think we now own 8/9 pairs between us, but this purple ones are definitely my new faves.  Maybe one day I'll treat myself to a real pair.

bloggers block

It’s official, I’ve got the blogging block.

It’s not the first time it’s happened, and I’m sure it won’t be the last!  And, being an avid blog reader, it seems I’m not alone.

I love blogging, I love having my own little creative space to do what I want with, I love the opportunities I’ve had, and the people friends I’ve met, and I love seeing how my blog has grown over the years I’ve been doing it.

The problem is, I don’t have the time to give it the attention it needs, and that I want to give it.  Whilst I want to learn how to properly and effectively promote my blog, how to improve my writing skills and to photograph (and then edit) better, all of these things take time.  But I feel these things are crucial for me to gain confidence in my blog again.

And while I’m really disappointed that I’ve neglected my blog so much in the last two months, I just don’t seem to be able to drum up the enthusiasm to get it going again…even though I really, really want to.  And there’s been times my finger has even hovered over the delete button, but that is something I really don’t want!

August has been a crazy month, weddings, hen dos and stag dos meant even the boy and I have barely seen each other, let alone given over time for hobbies.  I have had to give Twitter a back seat because I was paying more attention to that, than anything else.  I couldn’t watch a TV programme in full without checking my Twitter feed every 5 minutes, and that just isn’t healthy, and the boy? I was beginning to forget he was there!

On top of that, I just couldn’t think of new things to say about outfits I’ve worn hundreds of times.  I like doing outfit posts, but that involves having my photographer on hand all the time (but he works away during the week), and as much as I’d like to buy new clothes regularly, I have a wedding to pay for next year which means spending on myself is limited.  So how do I talk about the same pair of jeans I’ve worn 67 times…and that’s just this month?!

This sounds like a bit rant, and it wasn’t meant to be.  It’s just that I am determined to get back into blogging, so I thought I’d start with this little brain dump of where I’m at.  It’s really nice to see that actually, despite my lack of posting, that my stats haven’t taken too much of a dip, I hope that means you’re all eagerly awaiting a new post.

So watch this space, I promise I will be back...
